Other Issues
In some communities it is often difficult to find help and support regarding matters that are considered unsuitable for discussion. However, this can mean that people are prevented from seeking help and support which is freely available to them.
The following connections can help regarding many of these issues. The organisations will keep all information confidential. Have a look at their websites to see what they offer and then contact them on the email link provided for free advice.
Domestic violence - this is something that is suffered daily by women and men who are often too afraid to seek help. Domestic violence is defined by the Womens Safety Unit as:
- Physical abuse, including slapping, pinching, punching, grabbing around the throat and so on
- sexual abuse, including sex without consent, and/in or ways that make you feel uncomfortable or having sex to keep the abuser calm
- Emotional and mental abuse, including constant criticism, threats to you and your family, not allowing you money, food, sleep, your freedom
- Harassment including phone calls, following you, turning up at work, sitting outside your home
There is help and advice available which is treated confidentially. You may contact these agencies at any time that is convenient to you. Look at their websites to see what they can offer.
